Message from the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs
As we prepare to convert from quarters to semesters effective summer 2012, the faculty and staff in the College of Public Health are carefully planning for the effect of the transition on our students. We feel the quality and value of public health degree programs will be improved by the new semester curricula, and the transition will occur without increasing time to degree. The conversion to semesters will not affect current students who complete their degree requirements by or before the end of spring quarter 2012.
The College of Public Health completed its program conversion plans as scheduled in December 2010, and until these plans are approved, no definitive answers regarding new requirements can be given. However, we intend to make public our proposed curricula as soon as they are approved. Our approach for advising students is to have each division prepare an Individual Advising Plan for students to complete and review with their academic advisor.
We pledge that student progress toward graduation will not be delayed by the conversion to semesters. However, students will be expected to make satisfactory progress on their Individual Advising Plan.
Currently, advisors in the college have information on curriculum changes in their programs and will be able to answer basic questions regarding new requirements. In addition, we have posted applicable information to this website that you will find useful. These materials include a spreadsheet listing the current quarter-based courses and the corresponding semester-based courses.
We in the university and college will do our best to ease this transition. Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Michael Bisesi, PhD
Senior Associate Dean, Academic Affairs
