All applicants must have taken the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the GMAT within 5 years of application to the program.
The GRE and GMAT are more than a formality. Each test is a computer-based standardized test that is an indicator of your verbal, quantitative, and analytical abilities. Along with your academic record, purpose and goals statement, and other application materials, it provides faculty with a measure of your aptitude for graduate work. Therefore, it is important to prepare for the GRE or GMAT.
The GRE is mandatory when applying for the MPH, MS or PhD programs; however, if you have already taken the GMAT, please contact the Office of Academic Programs at cph@cph.osu.edu to inquire if the GMAT is acceptable.
The MHA program accepts the GRE or GMAT scores.
Many resources are available to help you prepare for the GRE or GMAT. Check with your local library or bookstore for preparation manuals. There are also fee-based courses that combine classroom, computer, and at-home preparation.
Check out the following websites that offer free practice exams, sample questions, and information about signing up for a course:
In addition, you should check occasionally for the free tests provided through Kaplan by checking their website at: http://www.kaptest.com/gre# and clicking on 'Find A Free Event'.
Call GRE Test-Taking services at 609-771-7670 to find the closest test center near you. You may also visit http://www.gre.org or http://www.gmat.org to register for a test and find testing centers.

A confirmation number, reporting time, and the test center address will be given to you when you call. The cost is $140 for GRE and $250 for GMAT.
If you must cancel and reschedule, do so as soon as possible. There is a $50 rescheduling fee for GRE and $50 for GMAT. Reimbursement policies vary by site.
The GRE is divided into three sections - verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing. There are two scores received: the raw score for each section between 200-800 points each and a percentile score. The GMAT is also divided into three sections- verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing. There are two scores received: raw score for each section between 0-60 points each, and a percentile score.
You can see the results of the verbal and quantitative sections immediately after completing the GRE or GMAT. The analytical writing portion scores will be available in 2-3 weeks at which time your GRE scores or GMAT scores will be sent to your designated schools. Register early for the GRE/GMAT, as slots often fill. Scores must be sent to OSU prior to the application deadline.
You may re-take the GRE once per calendar month, and no more than five times within a 12-month period.
