Mary Ellen Wewers, professor in the College of Public Health at The Ohio State University and her team of researchers have been studying the lives of women in the Appalachian region of Ohio. She has found a correlation between the number of friends a woman has and the success of smoking cessation. Professor Wewers also stresses the need for tougher regulations of the sale of tobacco products in the U.S.
