The college held its fifth annual Champions of Public Health Awards reception on Oct. 8 at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. The awards recognize the impact that individuals and groups have made on the health of Ohioans.
Dean Stanley Lemeshow welcomed 124 new graduate students to the College of Public Health at orientation on Sept. 22 at the Recreation and Physical Activity Center. Students received an overview of the college and were introduced to the chairs of each division. The majority of this year's students will study epidemiology.
The CPH and HSMP alumni societies held their first Alumni Reunion Weekend tailgate, along with the College of Optometry, on Sept. 12 in front of Graves Hall.
Contractors interested in doing the construction work for the Cunz Hall renovation project visited the site on Aug. 27.
The College of Public Health partnered with Columbus Public Health and the Ohio Department of Agriculture to offer a summertime farmers market in downtown Columbus. Local farmers brought fresh fruits and vegetables, providing nutritious food options to Columbus' downtown and East Side residents, areas known for having limited access to grocery stores.
College alumni attended the Columbus Symphony's Picnic with the Pop's featuring the Ohio State University Marching Band.
The Public Health Combined Conference, held each May, is a collaboration of the Ohio Public Health Association, Association of Ohio Health Commissioners, Association of Ohio Boards of Health, Ohio Environmental Health Association, Ohio Department of Health, the Society of Ohio Public Health Educators, and public health academic programs included the Ohio State University College of Public Health. Several CPH students presented their research at the conference.

AFHE welcomed Steven Bjelich, President and CEO of Saint Francis Medical Center and David Miller (OSU MHA alumnus) for a discussion on Entrepreneurial Leadership: Leading in Times of Change. The symposium is a fantastic opportunity for both current and future healthcare leaders to engage in conversation, to promote the development of core leadership competencies, to share knowledge pertinent to leading high-performing organizations, and for networking and reconnecting with classmates.
The College of Public Health co-sponsored the conference "Health, Race & Research: Community Engagement to Eliminate Health Disparities" on March 30-31, 2009. The conference brought together researchers and community members to build partnerships around addressing health disparities in Ohio.
The College of Public Health Alumni Society cheered on the Ohio State Buckeyes as they battled the Michigan Wolverines on Feb. 21, 2009. Before the game, the group met at The Varsity Club for pizza.
The College's Office of Academic Programs organized its annual career fair for all CPH students. Several employers met with students about practicum, fellowship and job opportunities.
