The Center for Public Health Practice will hold its annual Leadership and Management Institute on Aug. 5 and 6 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 350 N. High St., Columbus. The theme of this year's institute is "Empowering Conversations in a Changing World." The two-day seminar is geared toward professionals in the public health field who want to improve their work relationships and enhance leadership credibility.
Day one, from 1 - 7 p.m., features instructors Jeffrey Ford and Laurie Ford, a husband-and-wife team who co-wrote The Four Conversations: Daily Communication That Gets Results. The book, which will serve as the basis for discussion, teaches executives and managers how to improve communication in their organization. The first 100 people to register for the institute will receive a copy of the book. Jeffrey Ford also is an associate professor of management in the Max M. Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. Laurie Ford is owner of Critical Path Consultants, a management consulting firm based in Columbus.
Day two, from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., features a World Café conversation on public health taught by Deb Helber, former chief of staff of Corporate Shared Services at The Ohio State University Medical Center, and Tuesday Ryan-Hart, former assistant director of The Women’s Place at Ohio State. Both instructors are trained World Café facilitators. A Café Conversation is an easy-to-use method for creating a living network of collaborative dialogue around questions that matter in corporate, government, and community settings around the world. In the afternoon, participants will have the option to participate in a learning lab designed to teach skills and practices for hosting meaningful conversations. The training is for all who aspire to facilitate interactive conversations that engage groups, teams, departments and communities.
