Diversity Lecture Series presented by HSMP Alumni

The College of Public Health's Health Services Management and Policy Alumni Society is pleased to announce its 2009 Health Care Disparities and Diversity Leadership Lecture Series.

The lecture series will provide opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni to gain general knowledge about the economic, social and quality of care impact of health care disparities. The series will also focus on understanding the competencies necessary for future health care leaders who will manage and lead organizations that can play a vital role in removing disparities.

The lectures all take place from 12:30-2p.m. on the following days:

Oct. 13 at 1063 Graves Hall, 333 W 10th Ave, Columbus - Understanding Health Care Disparities: Patterns and Explanations, delivered by Jennifer Malat, PhD, from University of Cincinnati. Malat studies racial inequity in health care and her research focuses on how broad social patterns based on race affect health care interactions and quality.

Nov. 3 at 165 Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, 473 W 12th Ave, Columbus - Health Centers' Role in Reducing Disparities, delivered by Julie vanPutten, MD, PhD, MPH, MS, from the Columbus Neighborhood Health Centers, Inc. vanPutten is a physician who has distinguished herself as an advocate for community health care.

Nov. 10 at 1187 Graves Hall, 333 W 10th Ave, Columbus - The Role of Diversity in Personalized Healthcare at OSUMC delivered by Niccole Chandler, PhD. Chandler is a Leadership and Organizational Development Consultant at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Her current focus is two-fold: identifying and developing avenues for healthcare inequity discussions with plans of action and working with teams within the medical center to create workplaces of choice through greater understanding and stronger processes.
