College of Public Health alumnus Joseph F. Damore was recently elected chair of the Ohio State Alumni Association's Board of Directors. Damore, president of Mission Health System, received an MS in health care administration from Ohio State in 1976. At the time he also was a graduate teaching assistant and held an assistantship with the National Public Health Association.

"Joe has a tremendous passion for helping his university and serving his fellow alumni,” Association president and CEO Archie Griffin said. "In his time on our Board I've come to appreciate the great wisdom and insight he provides. He's helped our organization advance and I know his Board leadership will help us continue to improve.”

Damore previously served a two-year term as vice chair of the Board. Joining him as Board officers are vice chair Stephanie J. Peters (B.A. Social and Behavioral Sciences, '86), director of federal government affairs at Microsoft Corporation in Washington, DC; vice chair Donald H. Schriver (B.S. Agriculture, '69), consultant to the CEO at Dairy Management, Inc. in Weatherby Lake, MO; and treasurer Lawrence A. Hilsheimer (B.S. Business Administration, '78), executive vice president and CFO at Nationwide Insurance in Columbus.

Damore has worked in hospital administration for three decades in Ohio, South Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, and North Carolina. He has published works on the nursing shortage and on the formation of regional health systems, and was an adjunct professor at Michigan State University.

He has served his community and profession through causes including workforce development, Big Brothers, American Red Cross, graduate medical education, hospital associations, and Boy Scouts. Ohio State's graduate program in health care administration honored Damore in 2000 with a Distinguished Alumni Award. He represented the Graduate School on the Alumni Advisory Council from 1999-2005.
