Krygowski named Outstanding Health Educator

Public health alumna Sarah Krygowski (MPH ‘08, CPH, CHES) is the recipient of the Ohio Society for Public Health Education (Ohio SOPHE) 2011 Outstanding Health Educator award.

The annual award recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of health education and was presented to Krygowski at a recent society meeting.

While pursuing her master of public health degree at The Ohio State University College of Public Health, Krygowski specialized in Health Behavior and Health Promotion (HBHP) and her faculty advisor was Phyllis Pirie.

CPH to offer B.S. degree in fall 2012

The College of Public Health will offer a new bachelor of science in public health (BSPH) degree starting fall 2012 in conjunction with Ohio State’s conversion to semesters.

The BSPH has two interdisciplinary specializations that were developed and will be delivered collaboratively with the College of Arts & Sciences: public health sociology or environmental public health. BSPH students will be required to select one interdisciplinary specialization.

U.S. Ambassador to Cuba visits College of Public Health

The United States Ambassador to Cuba, Jorge Bolaños-Bolaños, visited the College of Public Health on Thursday, November 17.

The Ambassador met with Dean Stanley Lemeshow to discuss the state of public health in Cuba and tour the newly renovated Cunz Hall.

Alumni Spotlight on Christine M. Young

Christine M. Young works for PharmaNet/i3 as manager, statistical programming. She was a statistical programmer for seven years prior to her current position.

Originally from Columbus, Oh., Young received a Master of Public Health in Biostatistics from The Ohio State University in 2010. Her academic advisor at Ohio State was Michael Pennell.

Items needed for Faith Mission by Dec. 9

Each year, staff in Ohio State's Division of Medical Oncology make holiday gift bags for the Faith Mission Women’s Shelter, Nancy’s Place, which serves 46 women each night, and up to 52 during winter overflow months.

If you have any free samples, travel or regular-sized toiletries that you would be willing to donate, please drop them off to Renee’ Watts in 280D Cunz Hall and she will take them to Medical Oncology. Any type of toiletry is accepted and appreciated; toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, dental floss, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, makeup bags, makeup, perfume, perfume samples, deodorants, sun block, etc. They are also accepting new and gently-used blankets.

Mac Crawford promoted to Associate Professor of Clincal Public Health

A research seminar and reception were held on November 17 to congratulate Mac Crawford (pictured right), on his recent promotion to Associate Professor of Clinical Public Health in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences. Tim Buckley (pictured left), Associate Professor and Chair, Division of Environmental Health Sciences, gave congratulatory remarks at the reception.
