2009 Doctoral Studies Traineeship Award

The Center for Health Outcomes, Policy and Evaluation Studies at The Ohio State University College of Public Health is pleased to announce its competition for the 2009 Doctoral Studies Research Training Award for study leading to the PhD degree. This traineeship will cover up to four years of full-time study.

 

About the Award

Critical to building a successful health care system in this country is scientific research to improve quality, expand access and deliver care efficiently. In response, the Center for Health Outcomes, Policy and Evaluation Studies (Center for HOPES) has created a doctoral studies research training award competition in health services research.

Candidates for this award are expected to have a strong previous academic record in a relevant field, high scores on the required GRE entrance examinations, and be interested in pursuing research training in the field of health care system improvement. Applicants are asked to describe areas of study that they might anticipate undertaking, including specific topics and potential data sources. preference is given to applicants with an applied focus who want to conduct studies in collaboration with health care systems, government agencies, employer groups, and/or professional organizations. Examples of topic areas suitable for study under this traineeship program include: improving quality of care, expanding access to appropriate care, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of health services delivery, health economics analysis, health information and technology assessment, applied health policy analysis, and other areas directly related to making health care more affordable and effective.

Applications for the Center for HOPES research training awards are especially encouraged from Ohio residents, and proposed student research projects preferably will involve Ohio data sources and organizations. The research training awards will provide funds covering full tuition and graduate stipend for up to four years of full-time study. It is expected that students receiving awards will participate as a graduate research associate in studies being conducted by the Center for HOPES during the course of their doctoral program. Award recipients will take required coursework within one of the five divisions of the OSU College of Public Health. The deadline for applying has been extended to February 15, 2009. To apply, please complete the Center for HOPES Doctoral Studies Research Interest Form.
