Phyllis L. Pirie, PhD
Professor, Chair, and Interim Associate Dean for Research
As Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Pirie works collaboratively with individual faculty members, divisions, and centers to advance the college's research mission. She directs the work of the Office of Research. Dr. Pirie earned her PhD in Anthropology from The Ohio State University. Her research specialty is the evaluation of community-based health promotion programs, particularly in tobacco and obesity prevention.

Katrina Gustafson, CRA
Grants Manager (or Coordinator of Grant Funds)
Katrina serves as a Grants Manager for the College, working primarily with the divisions of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Services Management and Policy, and the Center for HOPES. Katrina has been with the College since 2003. She previously served as a Program Specialist for the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and at the Food and Drug Administration in legislative affairs and human resources. Katrina earned her B.A. in Political Science with a minor in English from Ohio University in June 1993. Katrina is a Certified Research Administrator.

Katherine Renick, MS, CRA
Coordinator of Grant Funds (or Grants Manager)
Kathy supports the research mission of the College of Public Health by managing pre- and post-award grant activities primarily in the divisions of Health Behavior and Health Promotion, Environmental Health Services, and the Center for Public Health Practice. Kathy also serves as support staff for the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development and coordinates the college's research seminars. Kathy has been an employee of the College since 2004, when she managed a large research project within the Division of Epidemiology. Previously she was a budget analyst and grants manager for the Virginia State Water Control Board. Kathy earned a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 1984. She earned her MS in Public Health in December 2006. Kathy is a Certified Research Administrator.
