Research Projects

handsThe College of Public Health maintains a robust research program that covers multiple public health disciplines and content areas. Research is considered one of the major measures of excellence for our school and university, having a direct effect on our ability to attract top quality new faculty and excellent students to the institution.

The total amount of research awards for College of Public faculty has been increasing over the past several years, from close to $3.5M in FY04 to approximately $9M in FY08.

Students are involved in many research opportunities in the college. Those that are pursuing academic degrees have a research requirement as a part of their program, and many students in the professionally-oriented programs also choose to work with faculty in research.

A new initiative of the college is the increased involvement of undergraduate students in research. In Autumn Quarter 2007, the Office of Research received funds from the dean's office to develop a mechanism to stimulate interest in public health research among Ohio State undergraduates.

All this activity has resulted in an increase in the number of faculty publications. In FY 2006, our faculty published an average of 3.6 peer-reviewed journal articles per faculty FTE. For FY 2008, that number had risen to 4.8. Our Strategic Plan identifies a target of 6.3 publications per faculty FTE by 2013.
