DOD 101: Applying for Biomedical Research Funds from the Department of Defense

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science is pleased to host Laura Barnes, OD, PhD, to present DOD 101, an introductory presentation for Ohio State researchers who are interested in applying for funding from the U.S. Department of Defense for medical and/or human performance-oriented research initiatives.

The presentation will describe several DOD research organizations in the service branches that fund university-based research; provide an overview of DOD’s Congressionally directed funding categories and why it is useful to know the funding source before writing a proposal; hints to find relevant DOD RFPs on grants.gov and sam.gov; and personal insights about how to prepare for meetings with DOD program managers, scientists and engineers.
   
Laura Barnes, OD, PhD, is the Department of Defense Research Specialist in the Research Development Office of the Ohio State Office of Research. Barnes worked for many years in various research related capacities for the Air Force Research Laboratory.
