The Center for HOPES works with public institutions and private organizations in Ohio and neighboring states to achieve their goals through professional health services research.
The Center draws upon the academic knowledge and skills, networks, and resources at The Ohio State University to deliver high-quality, tailored research studies.
The experience of published, nationally recognized leaders in the field of health services research and an applied, collaborative approach to investigate issues in health care creates a positive, results-driven experience for clients.
The Center for HOPES has the capacity to provide a variety of analytical and health policy research services including:
Health Services Research
We perform studies that address the cost and effectiveness of health care service delivery, access to care, quality of care, health information technology, and patient safety. Health services research is highly interdisciplinary.
We evaluate health-related programs and initiatives undertaken by health care systems, community groups, and other organizations. We can monitor and assess the success of programs over time, and measure the true impact that these programs are having on individuals and communities.
We design and conduct surveys and analyze resulting survey data. We have the capacity to conduct surveys in person, through the mail, telephone, and via the internet. We also can assist in the design and content of questionnaires.
Health Economics Analysis
Our health economists provide services to help clients assess the cost effectiveness and/or cost benefit of their projects. Our researchers can help identify the underlying direct and indirect costs of projects, to help decision makers understand the financial implications of policy and operational decisions.
Health Policy Analysis
We conduct studies and analyze available data to help policy makers develop plans, make decisions, and take actions to understand and implement policies at institutional and governmental levels. Our analytical and statistical skills assist policymakers to create effective policy and measure the impact of the policies enacted.
Comparative Effectiveness Research
Our researchers can help determine which health care treatments and interventions work best, for which patients, and what cost. Our comparative effectiveness training program, funded through NIH, helps train comparative effectiveness researchers.
Health Outcomes Measurement
Our researchers have knowledge in selecting appropriate methods and tools to measure health care outcomes, to help develop appropriate outcomes measurement tools for specific needs, and to test the validity and reliability of those measurement processes. We analyze both clinical outcomes, as well as associated social and economic outcomes.
