Applied Practice Experience Requirements

Students should begin planning for the applied practice experience in the first semester of the master of public health program. Prior to enrollment, students should review the experience requirements, identify career goals and know the available resources to find an applied practice experience.

Planning your experience

  1. Review the student experience page to review what other students have done for their Applied Practice Experience (APE).
  2. Review the Applied Practice Experience orientation video
  3. Explore opportunities through Handshake, career fairs, the college's weekly e-newsletter, the APE opportunities page, and your faculty advisor.
  4. Identify a site or agency contact to serve as a site supervisor
  5. Work with a faculty advisor and site supervisor to develop goals, competencies, and proposed deliverables

How to enroll in the applied practice experience

  1. When you have followed the planning steps above you should complete the APE Learning Agreement found below.
  2. When the learning agreement is submitted it will be routed to both your preceptor and your faculty advisor to review and approve.
  3. After those approvals are received, the OAPSS office will add the APE course to your schedule (PUBHLTH 7189) for 2 credits.

Note: The Carmen course associated with your enrollment in PUBHLTH 7189 will not be published. Students will be added to the Carmen course with the following title: "CPH (Applied Practice Experience) SP24 (semester of registration)."
