As communication coordinator, Steve is responsible for producing a wide variety of digital and print communications aimed at increasing the recognition and advancement of the College of Public Health. He develops communications content strategy and multimedia content and distributes to students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and other audiences through the college’s various communications channels. He researches, writes and edits content, including news stories and feature articles among other things.
Steve joined the college as the alumni affairs and outreach coordinator in October 2014 to focus on strategically engaging our community of almost 3,000 alumni. He served as the primary coordinator for both the College of Public Health and Health Services Management and Policy alumni societies, and took the lead on many of the college's engagement events and alumni communications. Upon graduating from Ohio State with a B.A. in strategic communications, Steve became the promotions manager at local concert promoter PromoWest Productions. Steve drove the promotions department to effectively market over 400 live concerts and events per year through grassroots and social media efforts. Additionally, he became responsible for designing print advertisements and promotional materials, and revived the company's e-mail newsletter, sent to over 30,000 subscribers.
In the summer of 2010, Steve and his wife decided to take some time away from life in the states to begin an 8-month sabbatical in New Zealand. They traveled the country staying with a variety of hosts via WWOOF: Willing Workers on Organic Farms. The trip cemented an appreciation for real food and sparked a desire to see a better food system take shape. This passion carried over to Columbus-based Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams where Steve was chosen to spearhead the new sister-company Eat Well Distribution, selling and distributing other natural food products to retailers.
