Dean's Note Autumn 2025

A note from Dean Paula Song

Reflecting on first four months of leadership at Ohio State

Paula Song

Four months into leading this fantastic College of Public Health, I’ve been delighted to learn new things about the breadth and depth of the contributions our alumni, faculty, staff and students are making in the world.

This fall’s magazine beautifully illustrates what I’m talking about. You’ll read about Julia Applegate, an alum who jumped into making a documentary with no filmmaking experience, just a passion for telling the story of connection in the Columbus lesbian community. You’ll be able to feel the excitement and anticipation of a new Ohio State University Hospital through the hands-on experience of our Master of Health Administration students, who are working to ensure everything goes smoothly when the doors open next year. And you’ll be reminded of public health’s connections to so many other disciplines as you read about students who are strengthening their Ohio State education with a minor in public health.

And if that wasn’t enough? Get ready to pop in your earbuds, because we have our first-ever Public Health Playlist! I was thoroughly impressed by our community’s ability to connect public health to so many musical genres.

Wishing you all the best, and happy reading!

Paula
