Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Academic Administration honored in virtual visit
University leadership surprised Bisesi with the award during a college faculty and staff meeting on May 14.
Michael Bisesi, vice dean of academic affairs and academic administration and professor and interim chair of environmental health sciences, has received the Ohio State President and Provost’s Award for Distinguished Faculty Service, presented annually to up to three faculty members whose contributions have made an impact on the quality of the university.
Bisesi has been involved in many administrative and faculty roles at Ohio State since 2009, including leading or co-leading the establishment of major campus-wide initiatives under the Discovery Themes, the Global One Health initiative, Sustainability Institute and Global Water Institute. He has also served on regional, statewide and national councils and committees in the environmental health sciences, including a current governor's appointment to the Ohio Department of Health’s Radiation Advisory Council.
“Dr. Bisesi provides his faculty expertise and professional service with deep commitment and without reservations. Particularly, his expertise in environmental hazards and their consequences is critical for tackling major global priorities and challenges to the sustainability of our planet,” one of his colleagues wrote.
“In all of his many activities and pursuits, Dr. Bisesi embodies the ideals of a land-grant university in ways that are rare and remarkable. Ohio State is undoubtedly a better university as a result of Mike’s multiple contributions to advancing its mission across teaching, research and engagement,” wrote another.
Bisesi and other recipients will receive a cash award and base salary increase from the Office of Academic Affairs.
Bisesi holds a BS and MS from Rutgers University and a joint PhD degree from the State University of New York ESF at Syracuse. He is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist, diplomat of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. His scientific expertise includes assessment, monitoring and control of human exposure to toxic and infectious agents; applied environmental toxicology and microbiology; and hazardous material and emergency incident response.
