MHA students take home top honors at case competitions

CPH teams propose solutions to hospital administration challenges

Four students pose holding awards.

Students in the Master of Health Administration program have spent the last few months bringing home the hardware in case competitions that challenge them to apply their creativity, knowledge and experience to analyze and address health care administration challenges.

Christelle Bonzil, Jordan Johnsamson, Cortney Martin and Rezi Useh placed first at the sixth annual UCLA Center for Healthcare Management Case Competition in January. The group presented a proposed strategy to address gaps in access to care for UCLA Health’s newly launched Medicare Advantage Plan.

In October, Kagatou Diallo, Rabaca “Sumeya” Haji Ibrahim and Useh also took top honors at the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) Everett V. Fox Student Case Competition. They were tasked with developing a five-year strategy for health plan member growth and retention, using artificial intelligence.

Noor Almahmoud, Annabelle Dolney and Dallas Ward, who traveled with MHA student observer Anna Zomaya, placed second at the eighth annual Robbins Case Competition in Healthcare Management at Baylor University in October.

Case competitions serve as an early opportunity for students to strengthen the project management, presentation and analytical skills they’ll need to succeed in their careers.
