Ping Zhang is a tenured associate professor at The Ohio State University with joint appointments in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Informatics. He leads Ohio State's Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIMed) Lab and the Artificial Intelligence in Digital Health Collaboration Core at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Zhang's research focuses on machine learning, data mining, and their applications to foundation models (e.g., large language models, large vision models, large multimodal models, AI agents), trustworthy AI (e.g., explainability, robustness, domain generalization, causal inference, uncertainty quantification, human-AI collaboration), computational medicine (e.g., predictive modeling, medical imaging, clinical NLP, real-world evidence, drug discovery and development).
Zhang is a 2022 recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. He received the IBM Master Inventor Award in 2018. He is an American Medical Informatics Association fellow, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers senior member, and Association for Computing Machinery distinguished speaker.
