Three CPH students earn awards at Ohio Public Health Conference

Three students from the College of Public Health were recognized at the Ohio Public Health Conference for their research posters and presentations.

  • Laura Sweet, a health behavior and health promotion PhD student, claimed a first-place student award for her oral presentation focused on Hepatitis C and the impact of a 2019 Ohio Medicaid policy update. Sweet will graduate in May.
  • Julie Strominger, a first-year epidemiology PhD student, placed second in the student poster category for her work on casino-based cash transfers and preterm birth among the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. 
  • Amy Kuntz, a MPH-PEP student, won a people’s choice award for her research on the opioid crisis.

The conference was held in Lewis Center, Ohio, from April 24 to April 26. Several CPH faculty members and collaborators participated throughout the event. 

Associate Professor Micah Berman, Assistant Professor Megan Roberts, Research Professor Marielle Brinkman and Assistant Professor Ahmad El Hellani spoke about the future of tobacco regulation in Ohio. Associate Professor Mark Weir gave a talk about wastewater sampling, facilitated by Teresa Long, special advisor of community engagement and partnership.
