Clinical Epidemiology internship at Wexner Medical Center

This summer-semester position will assist with surveillance activities, data collection and quality improvement initiatives.


The Student Intern will assist the Clinical Epidemiology Department in surveillance activities, data collection and quality improvement initiatives for the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC). During the internship, the student will be educated in the following subjects to prepare for future career in infection prevention:

  • Introduction to Infection Prevention and Control
  • Prevention and Control of HAIs
  • Surveillance and Reporting
  • Regulatory and Accreditation Requirements, Reputational Programs
  • Microbiology
  • Disinfection and Sterilization
  • Surgery and Other Invasive Procedures
  • Environment of Care
  • Outbreak Response and Exposure Management
  • Specialty Care Populations and Settings

The internship will conclude with the student given the opportunity to sit for the Associate – Infection Prevention and Control (a-IPC) certification through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC). The internship is approximately a semester long and will be based on availability of the intern.

This internship will run during the summer semester and conclude prior to autumn semester. Recommended length of internship commitment is 12-15 weeks.
