Summer Health Professions Education Program
This six-week, free summer enrichment program allows college freshmen, sophomores and juniors to explore their career interests in the world of health care.
The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a six-week, free summer enrichment program for college freshmen, sophomores and juniors to explore their career of interest in the world of health care (i.e., medicine, dentistry, public health, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy and more).
Some resources that are offered include but are not limited to: clinical exposure, academic enrichment, career development, and financial literacy — allowing students to develop competencies for becoming successful applicants to health profession programs. SHPEP takes place at 10 college institutions nationwide. The program covers the cost of travel, provides housing and meals throughout the 6-week duration, as well as a $1,000 stipend.
Application materials include an essay prompt, official transcript(s) from every post-secondary institution attended, and a letter of recommendation from a qualified reference. Applications are currently open and the deadline is Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026 by 11:59 p.m. EST.
