Biostatistics professor and former CPH dean Stanley Lemeshow, PhD, was awarded the 2019 L. Adrienne Cupples Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service in Biostatistics.
His passport tells a story. Multi-colored stamps bring back memories: Holland, Australia, China, India. For professor Stanley Lemeshow, PhD, teaching over 100 courses around the world has allowed him to share his passion for biostatistics with the future generation of public health leaders.
As a result of his lectures reaching worldwide audiences, his work on applied logistic regression and his leadership positions, Lemeshow was awarded the 2019 L. Adrienne Cupples Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service in Biostatistics.
The L. Adrienne Cupples Award was created in 2012 to honor its namesake, a faculty member at the Boston University School of Public Health who served as founding chair of the Department of Biostatistics and co-executive director of the Graduate Program in Biostatistics.
“I am honored to be chosen to receive this award,” Lemeshow says. “The biggest privilege of my career has been the opportunity to educate great students. Being recognized for it is extremely humbling.”
Throughout his 20 years at Ohio State, Lemeshow has served as the director of the Center for Biostatistics, director of the Biostatistics Core of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and founding dean of the College of Public Health.
Lemeshow joins seven past recipients chosen to accept the esteemed award by six members of the faculty of the Boston University Department of Biostatistics, and two student members currently enrolled in the graduate program in biostatistics at Boston University.
Lemeshow was presented the award in April at the Boston University School of Public Health.
