Tasleem Padamsee, associate professor in the Division of Health Services Management and Policy, has been selected for the Provost’s Midcareer Scholars: Scarlet and Gray Associate Professor Program, which celebrates and rewards scholarly, teaching and service excellence.
Helen Malone, vice provost for academic policy and faculty resources, and Patrick Louchouarn, senior vice provost for faculty, surprised Padamsee with the award during a college faculty meeting.
In her nomination letter, Interim Dean Karla Zadnik said Padamsee “exceeds the criteria for excellence in the domains of research, teaching and service.”
“She is also an exceptional citizen in the college and the university, a champion for student achievement, a trusted role model for faculty, an advocate for staff recognition, and the embodiment of a servant leader,” Zadnik wrote.
Padamsee is a sociologist by training and brings theoretical and methodological tools from sociology and women’s studies to address public health challenges. She is a scholar of health disparities and health systems, whose research program explores the intersections of social inequality, public policy and health care.
As the principal investigator of the Daughter Sister Mother Project, Padamsee studies how people with an elevated risk for breast-check cancer make prevention decisions and how diverse populations can better be supported to manage their cancer risks. She has been intensively involved in Ohio’s COVID-19 responses since 2020, helping shape Ohio’s response to COVID-19 in vulnerable populations. She is also a campus-wide leader in the use of qualitative and mixed-methods research in the health sciences and is a committed mentor and resource for students and junior faculty.
Padamsee is a celebrated member of the CPH community, having received the College of Public Health Integrity and Respect Values Award in 2021, the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2018 and the Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor Award in 2018.
Six scholars will be named a Scarlet and Gray Associate Professor this winter. These faculty will participate in social and professional development activities organized by the Office of Academic Affairs.
Padamsee will be designated a Scarlet and Gray Associate Professor for three years, receive supplemental compensation and an annual stipend to advance her scholarship, and have one semester without teaching during three-year period.
