About

The College of Public Health, Center for Tobacco Research, and Cancer Control Program are hosting a symposium titled “20 Years of Clean Indoor Air in Ohio.” This symposium will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the vote to make Ohio smoke-free. In November 2006, voters approved a ballot issue establishing Ohio’s clean indoor air law, reflecting a growing national trend in tobacco control policy at the time. The work leading up to the vote was challenging and met with many counterarguments and tactics from the tobacco, as well as the food and beverage industries. During this symposium, speakers will discuss the history of the initiative, how the opposition fought against it, the challenges to implement the law, and what the future holds for tobacco control policy in Ohio.
