The College of Public Health invites MacArthur Fellow Diana Greene Foster and a panel of experts to discuss the realities of abortion care access.

In post-Dobbs America, understanding the realities of abortion access requires looking beyond the debate to the evidence and real-life experiences of those seeking care. Drawing on her landmark Turnaway study, Diana Greene Foster will join Ohio State’s College of Public Health to discuss the outcomes for people who receive abortion care and those who are unable to obtain it. Following her talk, Foster will be joined by a panel of experts for a discussion led by Alison Norris, chair of epidemiology at the College of Public Health and an internationally recognized abortion researcher.

Diana Greene Foster, PhD, is a demographer and professor at the University of California, San Francisco who studies the causes and consequences of unwanted pregnancy. She was named a 2023 MacArthur Fellow and is the author of the 2020 book, "The Turnaway Study: Ten Years, a Thousand Women and the Consequences of Having – or Being Denied – an Abortion."
Panelists
Dr. Alison Norris, chair of the Division of Epidemiology in the College of Public Health, is an epidemiologist and medical doctor who studies sexual and reproductive health. To understand how laws and policies impact access to abortion and contraception, she co-leads a collaborative research program called the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network.
Dana Howard, PhD, is an assistant professor in The Ohio State University Center for Bioethics in the College of Medicine and in the Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences. Her work focuses on ethical issues that surround medical decision-making, moral distress and how the legal policies shape therapeutic relationships.
Marc Spindelman, JD, is the Heck-Faust Memorial Chair in Constitutional Law at Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law. He is a leading national legal scholar in multiple legal fields whose scholarship regularly focuses on questions of sexuality, reproduction, death and love as they intersect with law, society and culture.
