Epidemiology - Master of Science

The Master of Science degree is designed for students whose interests in epidemiology are academically oriented rather than professional practice. It is a natural entry point for students who are interested in pursuing a PhD degree or a career in research.

Throughout your studies, you’ll build a strong foundation in a particular specialty field, along with the research methods important it. The research and academic skills you learn will be used to prepare and defend a thesis.

Master of Science curriculum

Learn how to track the history, frequency, distribution and causes of disease, and apply epidemiological methods. The two-year, 46-credit master’s degree consists of foundational and specialization coursework, electives and a thesis.

Research specialization

Public Health faculty have a range of epidemiological expertise including cancer epidemiology, reproductive and sexual health, infectious diseases, childhood obesity and psychiatric epidemiology.

  • Minimum credit hours: 46
  • Prerequisites: Bachelor's degree; 3.0 GPA (recommended); strong undergraduate math and science education
  • GRE test scores optional
  • Program start: Autumn semester
