Biomedical Informatics - Master of Science

Ohio State’s Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics will combine your interests in technology and medicine with an education that prepares you for a career as a researcher who makes a difference in health care and how it’s delivered to patients.

As a student, you will learn from College of Medicine and College of Public Health faculty and partner with them on innovative research topics such as big data, artificial intelligence and biostatistics, and their impacts on clinical and population health. You will build a strong foundation in research methods, informatics tools and apply these in a hands-on research experience.

Full- and part-time options

Students can complete the program full time in two years or part time in three years. Foundational curriculum teaches informatics, epidemiology, research methods and ethics. Electives expand experience in computer science, programming and public health topics.

Diverse faculty research

Faculty in the biomedical informatics program experts in the fields of biostatistics, data sciences, computational biology and bioinformatics and clinical and translational informatics. They apply these methods to diverse research interests in medicine and public health.

Degree requirements

  • Minimum credit hours: 48
  • Prerequisites: Strong background in computer/information science, or life sciences; 3.0 GPA or greater; excellent recommendations; strong personal statement
  • GRE test scores optional
  • Program start: Autumn semester
