Award is Ohio State’s highest honor for staff

Margaret DiMaria, instructional design coordinator, received the Distinguished Staff Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements, service, leadership and dedication to Ohio State, as well as her demonstration of the university’s shared values. This recognition is the highest honor awarded to university staff.
Since joining the college in 2015, DiMaria has worked with faculty to create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that helps College of Public Health students acquire knowledge, skills and competencies. She is focused on ensuring students have high-quality educational experiences in online, hybrid and in-person courses.
DiMaria helps faculty excel in their teaching roles and truly cares about making sure they are equipped to do their jobs effectively, said Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs Amy Ferketich, adding that DiMaria makes a point to meet faculty where they are, working with them one-on-one to help them gain confidence in navigating new tools.
DiMaria is eager to find a solution to any problem and exemplifies the university’s shared values through her naturally inclusive approach, said nominator Misti Crane, director of strategic communications and marketing.
“Margaret invites people in,” Crane wrote. “She recognizes when they haven’t been invited. And she doesn’t just talk about accessibility being important – she is an outspoken advocate for insisting it be an integral part of all we do.”
Others highlighted the pragmatism, creativity and humor DiMaria brings to her role, making her a phenomenal colleague who brings joy and enthusiasm to course planning.
DiMaria was surprised with the award during a virtual meeting on Wednesday. She is one of 12 university staff to receive the Distinguished Staff Award this year, which includes a cash award and plaque.
