Clinical Research Internship in Young Women's Health

The O'Brien Lab, led by Sarah O'Brien, MD, MSc, focuses on the intersection between women’s health and hematology. It still takes on average over 10 years after the first bleeding event for a woman to be diagnosed with an inherited bleeding disorder. Our lab studies methods for earlier recognition and detection of reproductive bleeding in menstruating adolescents.

Responsibilities:
As part of the team, students will play a crucial role in:
Recruiting and enrolling subjects in primary care clinics.
Administering assessments of menses and bleeding symptoms.
Conducting surveys to gather relevant data.
Administering finger prick blood tests and processing blood samples.

Time Commitment:
This is an in-person internship requiring a commitment of 10-15 hours per week. It offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic research environment.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Comfort working with adolescent and young adult populations.
Ability to commit to in-person presence for 10-15 hours a week.
Exceptional organizational skills and self-motivation.
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health-sensitive information.
Cultural sensitivity and ease in working with a diverse range of socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic populations.
