The Summer Research Opportunities Program helps prepare undergraduates for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors and enrichment activities. The program provides students with a $5,000 stipend, travel, housing, meal plan, and an enriching 9-week research experience with a faculty mentor while providing faculty with opportunities to recruit talented and diverse students into their graduate programs.
Student eligibility requirements
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale)
- Be a citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S.
- Be enrolled in a degree-granting program at a college or university in the United States, Puerto Rico, or other U.S. territory
- Have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate education by the time of the summer experience
- Have at least one semester of undergraduate education remaining after completing the summer research experience
- Dates: May 28-July 26
- Application deadline: Feb 10, 2024. Students can apply through the BTAA SROP application page.
Program Benefits
- Student stipends are $5,000 for 9-weeks.
- SROP students receive RPAC membership, housing, and roundtrip travel to and from Columbus, Ohio.
- Faculty mentors receive $500 research funds to support student’s research needs.
- SROP students participate in a professional development series, community building activities, and research symposium organized by The Consortium of Summer Undergraduate Research Programs.
- SROP students who successfully complete the program are eligible for a free graduate application fee waiver and nomination by graduate programs for the Patrick S. Osmer Fellowship.
