Congratulations to third-year Public Health student, Alex Ochoa, for winning the Undergraduate Abstract of Distinction at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Research Retreat. Alex presented on Assessing the Nutrition Environment in the South Linden Neighborhood and urged community intervention to improve high-quality food options and development of new food markets in the neighborhood.

Undergraduate students should have applied for graduation for spring semester 2023 already, however if they have not, applications will still be accepted. Apply here.

Graduate students have until December 7, 2022 to apply for spring semester 2023 graduation. Students should first watch the graduation video created for their degree to understand the process. Graduate students apply for graduation using the Graduate School's forms portal.

Aug. 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day. CPH program manager, Colleen Hendon provided a "Carry Narcan. Save a Life" training during this year’s BSPH orientation to approximately 110 continuing and first year, undergraduate students on August 22.

Advocate For Public Health Evidence: Use your voice for commonsense gun policy

Gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in the U.S. According to the CDC, there were 45,222 firearm-related deaths in 2020, and guns cause nearly 85,000 injuries each year. The American Public Health Association supports common sense gun policies, including a federal ban on assault weapons and laws that would require criminal background checks for all firearms purchases, including those sold at gun shows and online.

House Bill 327 will impact the delivery of public health education and the effective delivery of public health services by restricting education, training and discussion about racism, sexism, gender and identity in Ohio K-12 schools, colleges/universities, and state agencies.
