Within OSU Extension, the Farm to School program increases the capacity of schools and early learning programs to purchase, serve, and teach about locally produced foods. The Applied Practice Experience student will work on an USDA-supported initiative to empower teachers to implement garden-based learning throughout the schoolyear to teach health and nutrition concepts.

Applied Practice Experience
Job description –
Develop a literature review to critically assess and annotate the scientific literature describing barriers to and benefits of garden-based learning.
Work with a cross-sector team to set use data gathered through a pilot evaluation to finalize the Growing Teachers throughout the Seasons curriculum applying behavioral and social science theory at different levels of intervention (intrapersonal, interpersonal, and community).
Assist with developing materials and communications to convey how Farm to School activities enable communities to influence their own well-being, including materials for school food service directors, teachers, and students.
Assist with developing an application for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval.
Assist summarizing pilot data from the curriculum pilot for academic presentations and publications.
Approximately 12 hours/week for 10 weeks (min of 5 hours/week between 8-5 pm)
Coursework in Public Health, excellent communication skills, program evaluation skills, experience working with schools or community-based organizations preferred.
