Geoffrey Carney-Knisely and Brian O’Rourke, PhD students at the College of Public Health, have been named 2023-24 Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship recipients.

This Ohio State Graduate School award supports the research and scholarship of doctoral or terminal master’s degree candidates for their dissertations or theses.

O’Rourke is a fifth-year PhD student in Health Services Management and Policy. His dissertation focuses on how future physicians such as pre-med and medical students perceive the U.S. health care system. He plans to use the funds to provide incentives for medical trainees who participate in his survey and interview-based studies.

Carney-Knisely is a sixth-year student in the Medical Scientist Training Program, a dual MD-PhD degree program, working toward his PhD in epidemiology. He plans to use the funding to help him recruit Ohio behavioral health providers to participate in interviews focused on substance-use changes during the pandemic.
