This new course offering will involve a combination of instructor lecture followed by student presentations and critical discussion of research papers that represent classic and recent advances in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) pathophysiology/pathobiology.
Pathology of Cystic Fibrosis (3 credits, MEDMCIM 5600/6600) is a comprehensive course, directed by Luanne Hall-Stoodley and Dan Wozniak. The course will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:35-10:55 a.m. in 159 Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute.
Course Goals:
- To gain an understanding of the basic pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of CF
- How impaired immune cell function and hyperinflammation impact CF lung disease
- Mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis in CF
- The complexity of the CF microbiome and how this impacts health and disease
- Current treatments and experimental approaches to alleviate or cure CF
