All About Abduction: Cultivating Surprise and Finding the Middle Ground

When: -

Where: 255 Cunz Hall

An advanced seminar in Qualitative and Community-Engaged Research Methods in the Health and Social Sciences

Abductive analysis is a recent innovation in qualitative data analysis that has been rapidly growing in popularity. Philosophically grounded in the pragmatist tradition, abduction occupies a middle ground between purely deductive and purely inductive logics, and attempts to resolve long-standing challenges faced by practitioners of grounded theory. Join us for an exploration of abductive logics and methods at our last Qualitative and Community-Engaged Research Methods (QCERM) meeting of the year.

No registration is required for the event. Lunch will be served for in-person attendees, and virtual attendance is also possible the day of the event.

Guest leader

Brian O'Rourke is a recent PhD from the College of Public Health's Division of Health Services Management and Policy, who has conducted original mixed methods research and abductive analysis in the health policy arena.
