New monthly seminar on qualitative and community-engaged research methods

The Advanced Seminar on Qualitative and Community Engaged Research Methods (QCERM) will meet monthly starting in September to help scholars deepen their expertise in the use of these methods.

QCERM attendees will explore sophisticated and new methods through collaborative reading and discussion. The seminar will meet in hybrid format, welcoming both in-person and virtual attendance. Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. Faculty members, graduate students, clinical researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and research staff members are welcome from across Ohio State departments and Wexner Medical Center units. Attendees should already have had basic exposure to core ideas in qualitative and/or community-engaged research. Possible topics for the first year include: unstructured interviewing, inductive methods for coding textual data, developing codebooks for large qualitative datasets, abductive logic in qualitative research, photovoice methods, qualitative coding software, entering communities for research collaboration, sustaining long-term relationships with community-based organizations, creating visualizations of research results and achieving methodological rigor in qualitative research.

QCERM 2024-25 is sponsored by the Division of Health Services Management and Policy in the Ohio State University College of Public Health. Additional sponsorships are welcome from other Ohio State and Ohio State university Wexner Medical Center units.
