Seminar HDFS 8862: Grant writing for graduate students - AU23

Through this seminar course, you will learn: different grant mechanisms, what makes an application successful, the peer review process, and grant-writing skills.

Instructor: Dr. Natasha Slesnick**

Enarson 354
Wednesday 9:35 AM – 12:15 PM

Why seek external funding to fund your dissertation research (or other research)?
a) The funder/sponsor usually pays a stipend so you can fully focus on completing your dissertation,
b) You will enhance your post-graduation employment options,
c) You will learn important grant writing-skills to last a lifetime.

After picking the best grant mechanism for you, you will learn how to put together each section of the application and will begin writing your application. The format for learning involves readings, lecture, class discussion and feedback on the sections of your application. Upon completion of the course, students will have a completed grant application ready to submit to an external funder.

**The instructor is an expert grant writer, social science research, and has brought in multiple federally-funded grants to OSU. However, hard science graduate student researchers can enroll with the understanding that the instructor will provide feedback on grant-writing rather than content.
