Challenges and Solutions in Developing Neighborhood SES Metrics: The Diabetes LEAD Network Experience

When: -

Where: 160 Cunz Hall

This session of the Biostatistics Seminar Series features Leslie McClure of St. Louis University

The Diabetes Location, Environmental Attributes, and Determinants (LEAD) Network was established to investigate how community factors influence the risk of Type 2 diabetes across three large cohorts. During this collaboration, we defined the Network’s objectives, assessed various environmental exposures, and explored their associations with new-onset Type 2 diabetes. A key focus was understanding the impact of neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) on diabetes risk. In this presentation, I will detail the development of our SES measure, the evaluation process to ensure it met our research goals, and the insights gained. I will also highlight the significance and challenges of collaborative research, emphasizing how such partnerships foster growth and development for statisticians.
